On my 30th birthday I was keen to go out and celebrate but instead my IBS flared its ugly head and meant I only felt less anxious once we’d cancelled our plans and I’d instead sunk my bloated, cramping belly into a hot bubble bath. This routine has become more frequent than I’d like and each time leaves me feeling frustrated that I’ve had to cancel my plans with friends, again. This year, I’m taking Anna’s advice (aka All About the Balance) and will start being more kind to myself.

It’s been precisely 1 year and 4 months, since my first IBS post went live and it’s been a rollercoaster of a journey ever since. Living with IBS brings some extreme highs, when you’ve finally cracked how to manage it, and some extreme lows where you’re bathroom bound, doubled over in pain, bawling your eyes out. If you have IBS you know exactly what I’m talking about, it’s a debilitating illness, if I can call it that, and can be super isolating but every time sufferers talk about it, they’re helping break the poo taboo. And that’s super important, which is why I wanted to post today about my anxiety, one of the other symptoms of IBS.
I’m just over halfway through my second Symprove trial and so far, apart from an incident where I inhaled a whole Aero bar in one sitting, I’ve been fine. It’s a miracle.
It’s with both excitement and nervousness that I’ve just signed up for another 12-week Symprove trial. I’m throwing aside my needy home-brewed probiotic and taking a ready-made bottle from the fridge instead. Why? Because I’m genuinely curious to see if there will be any difference in my symptoms, swapping from one probiotic to another.
